1st Annual Kids Green Project

As part of the 1st Annual Green Living Festival held May 16-17, 2008 at the Omar Shrine Convention Center in Mt. Pleasant, we are hosting a contest for “Green” Art or an Essay.

The theme for the contest is: “What Green Living means to me?”

·         We are encouraging children of all ages to enter in two ways:  create a piece of art that illustrates what Green Living means to you or write an essay, no more than 250 words, about what Green Living means to you.

·         We encourage those who choose the art form to think outside the box and think of ways to use everyday items or recyclable materials to create your art.

·         The winners of the contest will receive fabulous prizes and have their work published in Natural Awakenings magazine and other community recognition including being displayed at the Green Living Festival.

·         Deadline for entry is Friday, April 25.  Be sure to include your name and a phone number on each entry. There will be drop boxes available for entries from April 1 to April 25 in the children’s area of the following Charleston County Public libraries:

o   Main – 68 Calhoun St., downtown Charleston

o    Dorchester Regional - 6325 Dorchester Road, N. Charleston

o    John’s Island Regional – 3531 Maybank Hwy, Johns Island

o    Mt. Pleasant Regional - 1133 Mathis Ferry Road, Mt. Pleasant

o   Otranto  - 2261 Otranto Road, N. Charleston

o    St. Andrews Regional - 1735 N. Woodmere Drive, W. Ashley

Cost to get in for the festival:

  •    $7/day ($5 with the $2 off coupon from Natural Awakenings-Lowcountry)
  •    $10/both days ($8 with the $2 off coupon from Natural Awakenings-Lowcountry)
  •    Friday, Senior citizens-55 and older-receive an additional $2 off

We will need many volunteers to help with recycling, directing, spreading the word and many other opportunities.
